Dagny Kight

Dagny Kight grew up a fat girl in Daytona Beach, FL. She was never interested in hanging out on the beach, even if she had been willing to wear a bathing suit. After losing half her body weight, her days of dodging physical activity are now behind her and she doesn't mind how far away she might have to park. A professional writer and editor, "Powerful Hunger" is the first book Dagny has written for herself, under her own name.

Feeling Control by Feeling Connected

Re-connecting deeply with your physical presence is one of the most powerful steps you can take when working to take control of your weight. So many of us who deal with serious weight retreat into our heads and become numb to the body that can feel like a burden. But ignoring the external “advice” and …

Is Ruby Gettinger Pulling a Scam?

Go ahead, call me a cynical bitch. Former reality show “star” Ruby Gettinger’s latest promotional venture has ended with her achieving her announced goal: losing 50lbs by consuming products from multi-level marketing company, Visalus. And yes, I’m skeptical. I’ll save you the signup and give you the link to watch the videos from “Ruby’s Challenge.” …

“Flab to Fabulous Pageant” Fades Away

It seems unlikely that the “Flab to Fabulous Pageant” will go off as announced at the end of May or sometime in August or whenever, it was never all that certain just WHEN this thing was happening. The pageant’s Facebook page has not had a “Like” in months and there are just a handful of …

500 Calories in 30 Minutes? Forget About It

Everytime I see some “500 calories in 30 minutes” claim it really makes my blood boil. It’s a complete scam. For most people, their bodies are not physiologically capable of burning calories at that rate, no matter how hard they work at it. Normally, I wouldn’t spread this kind of information but I’ll go ahead …

What the Fat Haters Say About You. No, Not That.

When I had my original weight loss blog back around 2004 to about 2006, I got these taunting anonymous emails from someone who claimed he knew me. He made a remark that lead me to think he was someone I’d known from Florida. I didn’t play along so he kept writing me and eventually admitted …

Essentially, poor people are fatter which seems to present a paradox that food insecurity leads to weight …

Why I Do Not Stress Over GMOs

Spend any time on Facebook and you’ll see frequent posts about the horrors of Monsanto and the scourge they’re unleashing upon the world. *yawn* I don’t join in the bitching and in fact, I find it quite tedious, even annoying. A lot of it is simply spreading rumors and crazy rants. Why don’t I care? …

Are Fat People More Highly Evolved?

I make the case that some of us are born to be naturally larger people who crave food more. It just makes sense and it’s obvious! We all know people who are thin all their lives, they never seem to be concerned about what they eat or don’t eat. They make no particular effort to …

The Fine Line Between Weight and Health

I’ve discussed the concept of weight as an indicator of health. We know it makes no sense to assume that any given person is in a state of diminished health if we don’t actually know anything about them except their physical appearance. In his excellent blog, Dr. Arya Sharma references the “limited utility of BMI …

Jillian Michaels Shows Her True Hateful Colors

I just saw an interview with Jillian Michaels on CBS Sunday Morning. She talked about how she’s now a “brand.” She talked about being so stressed out she wants to eat ice cream for dinner and drink wine straight from the bottle. She talked about being so busy she hasn’t been to the gym for …
