I recently discovered a very interesting blog by a woman who is working on losing THREE HUNDRED pounds! She is a year out from having weight loss surgery and she’s doing everything right. She is exercising regularly and has actually become a devotee of Crossfit. But here’s what’s more important to know about her—She started exercising a year ago by walking for thirty seconds at a time.
She was told she should walk two miles a day and do other exercise routines besides. At 417lbs, she knew that was simply not realistic. A lot of people would feel like failures before they even started. But she didn’t listen to anybody else’s instructions. She set out to create her own routine. She began by walking to her own mailbox and back. Then she walked to her neighbor’s mailbox. Then the next mailbox…. She made a map of the benches at her local Walmart. Three days a week she drove out and walked from bench to bench. She leaned on a shopping cart when she had to.
From thirty seconds of walking to a daily Crossfit workout. She took control on her own terms and she’s still workin’ it.
As she did with exercise, she’s faced reality about her eating behaviors and what she knows needs to be done. She posts about the tough truths many of us have to accept if we are going to manage our weight for life. Many of you will see yourselves as you read. Do you believe you can eat anything you want “in moderation” and take control of your weight problem? Have you looked for diet programs that emphasize food gratification and pleasure? Do you put time and effort into finding substitutes for the foods you are the most connected to?
Meet Holly. She has something very powerful to say. Read it here.
